Mysterious PlayStation 3 Slim listing appears on Amazon.de
A listing has been found on the German Amazon shop for “PlayStation 3 Konsole slim.” There are no other details on the listing — no date, no picture, no price, and even the platform is listed as “platform independent.” The listing is so new and so devoid of info that nobody has even posted any user reviews of this nonexistent product.
With all the stuff we’ve heard about the supposed Slim, we have no doubt that it is, or will be, a real product — but this Amazon listing does little to convince. We will, however, keep checking Amazon for more info about the Slim, whenever we log back in to see if Starcraft: Ghost is back in stock.

ESRB rates Shadow of Destiny PSP port
“There are no plans to release a PSP port of Shadow of Destiny in North America at this time.” — Konami, July 7th, 2009
After hurtling forward in temporal space for just over three weeks, it seems we’ve arrived at a point when Konami does indeed have plans to release its quirky time-travel caper. At this time, the Entertainment Software Ratings Board lists a “Teen” rating specifically for the PSP version of Shadow Of Destiny, as well as a cautionary note describing the numerous ways in which protagonist Eike gets bumped off. Remember, you’re solving your own murder mystery in this one!
With the death of adventure gaming having been revealed to be entirely exaggerated, it comes as little surprise to see even Konami digging through its backlog for a few classic walk-and-talkers. Not that we’re complaining.

Sony eyes world record for ‘Toro Station’ newscast
Toro Station, a semi-interactive newscast running on PlayStation 3s in Japan, is about to hit its landmark 1,000th episode, and Sony has decided to submit the milestone to the Guinness Book of World of Records for most consecutive days of game content distribution. The Japanese-only content is available as Mainichi Issyo (Everyday Together), an application that houses various content including minigames and the long-running news program.
Toro Station stars two cats who humorously deliver news and recommendations to viewers while appearing extremely adorable in the process. Having been available since the day of the PS3 launch in Japan, the content has seen more than 700,000 downloads across the PS3 and PSP, according to Sony. Fake cats and world records? Oh Japan, we love you.

Doc Marks discusses evolution of the PlayStation motion controller
Doctor Richard Marks, known among gamers as the PhD behind the EyeToy, discussed the evolution of the Playstation motion controller technology — revealed by Sony during E3 2009 — with PC World. Marks said that experience with the EyeToy, along with other data, showed Sony that, while gamers did have fun experiences with the physical movement of the original peripheral, they still desired the precision and complete control in a fast, effective way. Upon this realization, Sony opted to leave the concept of control-free gaming behind and advanced to the dual-wand prototype showcased at E3 2009. “We designed our new control system to accomplish all of this. We believe the path we have chosen is an ideal combination of both spatial and action/button input,” Marks told PC World.
When prodded about comments made by Shigeru Miyamoto, who said he was “flattered” by Sony and Microsoft’s motion-control direction, Marks respectfully agreed that — while the EyeToy predates Nintendo’s new console — the Ninendo Wii was an important advancement that “broadened the gaming market and enabled new experiences.” As for camera-only control, Marks says the tech can work but it’s difficult to resonate with players who get more gratification out of using a tactile device. Attempts to uncover release details or the price-point of PlayStation’s yet-to-be officially named motion controllers proved futile, but Marks promises the device to hit stores by Spring 2010.

Gran Turismo PSP box art revealed
The PlayStation Europe blog has revealed that an image floating around the Internet earlier today is the official box art of Gran Turismo PSP. The art is reminiscent of other Gran Turismo titles, showcasing a beautiful vehicle — in this case the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 — on a classy, dark backdrop.
Yes, boxes (click for a bigger shot of the art) aren’t breaking news, but we help to reveal art as a service to our readers. What kind of service? Knowing what a game looks like means you are less likely to have to interact with a grumpy video game store employee. Unless, of course, you are a grumpy awesome video game store employee, in which case we think you’re just swell. Gran Turismo PSP is scheduled to hit stores on October 1 on UMD and the PSN.

JBO: Joystiq Box Office, July 20 - July 31

We had to skip the Joystiq Box Office last week, due to the fact that Comic-Con took over this particular writer’s duties (if interested, you can see some of what went on both here and over on Cinematical). Luckily, a lot of good stuff has come out in the meantime, and we’re back!
Recommendation of the Week:
Watchmen: The End is Nigh The Complete Experience (Blu-ray: $49.99 SRP): You probably figured this one was coming. What you might not have figured on is the incredibly amazing Maximum Movie Mode that this Blu-ray brings to your player. It’s a great way of presenting special features, with the director giving commentary on the screen, while the movie plays behind him on one panel, with the features unfolding on the other. Sensory overload, in the best possible way. Plus, you get 25 extra minutes of footage in the director’s cut, and Parts 1 and 2 of the Watchmen: The End is Nigh game. Not a bad package.
Read for the full list on a system-by-system basis just after the break. As usual, we’ll see you at the popcorn st … well, actually we won’t see you at all. But you catch our drift. Plus, be sure to tell us what you’ll be watching, or what you’ve seen recently that bowled you over.

NHL 10 asks gamers to ‘Battle for the Cup’
In a new producer-hosted NHL 10 trailer, EA Sports is showcasing the upcoming title’s “Battle for the Cup” mode. Essentially, the mode boils down to kicking off a best-of 1, 3, 5 or 7 game playoff series from the main menu, but tweaks to the game’s crowd, AI and other enhancements crank the pressure on high to perform.
Also revealed (albeit last week) was the game’s “Be a GM” mode (video after the break), where players take on the role of a team’s General Manager and attempt to build a dynasty over his tenure as the man in charge. With so many additions and enhancements hitting the ice in NHL 10, we eagerly await more details on what rival NHL 2K10 has in store. We totally hope they drop the gloves for our hard-earned cash.
