PlayStation Network’s Eric Lempel has just announced via the PlayStation Blog that PSP firmware version 6.10 — which he dubs “a big update” — will be available soon. The update will add a new feature, SensMe, to the system’s XMB. This music player, announced at E3, can be used to generate playlists from songs stored on the system based on pre-defined “moods.”

The most substantial addition, however, will only work with the PSP Go. Using the Go’s built-in Bluetooth networking, owners of the new system will be able to tether the device to their Bluetooth-capable mobile phones and use them as wireless modems for internet access beyond WiFi hotspots — essentially wherever a cellular data network is available.

An update to the free MediaGo software — designed for transferring PS Store items and media to and from the PSP using a PC — will be available for download tomorrow, October 1, according to Lempel.

We’ll update once PSP firmware v6.10 goes live. In the meantime, you can watch SensMe in action after the break.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 ‘Moments’ trailer is obscenely awesome

There’s one major thing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 possesses that its insanely hyped competitors lack: A liberal dose of good old fashioned profanity. Of course, we haven’t played said competitors, but we can’t imagine another game’s characters drop bombs of the “S” and “F” varieties as freely as those seen in the trailer above. Well, except for the two agents in House of the Dead: Overkill, but that’s a special, special exception.

Fortunately, it looks like there’s some solid action in there to accompany all the dirty words. Check out the trailer for an uncut, uncensored and unsuitable for work gameplay chunk from a multiplayer match in BBC2. The game, that is — not the brainy British television channel.

NIS to Re-Release Their PSP Games on PSN Tomorrow

Prinny Can I really Be The Hero

With the digital-only PSP Go releasing tomorrow in stores, anyone buying one will be held at the mercy of the PlayStation Store and what games it offers up for sale. NIS America is looking to take advantage of what might be the best opportunity to take place of the marketplace by re-releasing some of their old titles on the PlayStation Network and have a 50% sale on six games for the next week.

For one week, you’ll be able to buy the following games for between $4.99 and $9.99: Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero?; Blade Dancer: Lineage of Light; Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness; Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do to Deserve This?; Dragoneer’s Aria; and Mana Khemia: Student Alliance.

And in a matter that is completely and utterly irrelevant to PSP Go owners, NIS America is asking the public for help deciding if one of their games — Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! — should be released on UMD. A poll has been posted on PlayStation.Blog with the “No” option currently pulling away with 60% of the responses. If you ever want to see Badman hit store shelves, do your part and get voting.
