Pachter: More console price cuts coming by summer

In lieu of a price cut on Microsoft’s part so soon, Pachter feels that the company may instead introduce “a more feature-packed Xbox 360 in early 2010 (likely with a 250GB hard drive) at the same $299 price point.” The great seer believes that Microsoft will only drop the price on its console before summer “if it begins to lose significant market share to Sony,” adding that he anticipates last fall’s price cut on PS3 will continue to help Sony gain ground on Microsoft.
On the portable front, Pachter doesn’t expect PSP Go (remember that?) to make much headway this year unless Sony prices it “more reasonably,” and says that the biggest challenge facing Nintendo DS is “its own high installed base,” stating that he anticipates sales of the handheld to steadily decline in 2010. Good thing Nintendo’s started talking about a “DS2,” huh?

Club Nintendo Elite Status Rewards Announced

For all you faithful followers of Nintendo’s online Club rewards system, which allows you to earn digital gold “coins” from your first-party game purchases that can then be cashed in for various Nintendo goodies, your meticulous entering of reward codes has paid off.
The Big N has announced the Elite Status rewards for the end of this Club Nintendo year (Ending on June 30, 2009) and they include clothing, a calendar and even downloadable content for Gold or Platinum Status members.
Below are the optional rewards depending on your Elite Status ranking.
Club Nintendo Members who have earned the highest Platinum status (600 gold coins in a single year) can choose from either of the following:

Yes, that’s right. Nintendo is offering a free additional fighter to the recent Punch-Out!! remake on the Wii, and what’s more, the new fighter is Little Mac’s very own trainer, Doc Luis. But if you don’t already own Punch-Out!!, there’s no need to worry. The downloadable content can be run completely independent of the full Wii title, so if you haven’t bothered to pick up this classic-style pugilist adventure, you can still enjoy the additional fighter.

Nintendo collectors will no doubt be scampering to obtain an official Mario hat. The iconic red cap comes in a one-size-fits-most measurement and makes a great addition to any collector’s shelf, if not a hardcore cosplayer’s head.
Members with Gold status (300 gold coins in a single year) will be able to obtain a single reward:

A Nintendo-themed desktop calendar is an excellent reward for Gold Status members, and with several major titles planned for a 2010 release, including new Mario, Zelda and Metroid games on the Wii, this calendar, likely featuring art from those titles, will help avid Nintendo fans mark off the days to their upcoming releases.
To obtain these rewards, you’ll need to have obtained either Gold or Platinum status with Club Nintendo before June 30, 2009, and you’ll need to log into your account and pick your reward before August 11, 2009. The rewards are scheduled to be delivered by November 1, 2009.
If you somehow fell short of either Gold or Platinum status, but managed to horde a few gold coins anyway, you’ll still be able to earn the standard redeemable rewards through the Club Nintendo system. Your current coin stash will remain in your inventory for a total of two years, so there’s plenty of time for moderate purchasers to reap the benefits of Nintendo’s Club system.
Only titles and hardware published by Nintendo itself can be used to redeem gold coins, so standard first-party fare such as Mario, Zelda and Metroid will earn you some digital currency, but third-party games such as Resident Evil or The Conduit won’t.

New Tony Hawk Title Coming to DS
Activision has officially announced that their latest title in the Tony Hawk series of games will be called Tony Hawk’s Motion and it is coming out for the DS. There are a couple of surprises in the announcement of the game: it is not only a skateboarding game, and there will be a motion-sensing peripheral included.
For me, and pretty much everyone else in the known universe, Tony Hawk is synonymous with skateboarding. This is why it’s a little confusing to me as to why several snowboarding events have been thrown into this game. You’re going to see Pro Snowboarder Todd Richards work his stuff in the 20 or so snowboarding challenges that are included.
Now we get on to the good stuff. The game will ship with an accelerometer-based ”Motion Pack” that will slide into the GBA slot of the DS, so you’ll be able to twist, tilt and turn your way through those grinds like a pro! Activision has teamed up with Kionix, Inc. to create the accessory (Kionix is a developer of all sorts of motion sensing technology).
Apparently, the game will ship with a second title, an action puzzle game called Hue Pixel Painter, that will also take advantage of the Motion Pack. The game will have you tilting your DS all over the place to re-colorize a dull and drab world.
Tony Hawk’s Motion is scheduled to be released sometime in November.

Jagged Alliance Coming to DS
Jagged Alliance is a tactical RPG series that first saw the light of day in the mid-to-late 1990’s on the PC. This game was originally announced quite some time ago, but disappeared off the radar when the publisher, Strategy First, cancelled all of the DS titles that they had in the works.
The good news is that publisher Empire Interactive has picked up the ball and is running with it, being backed up by Cypron Studios handling the developmental end of things. The game has you controlling various squads of mercenaries, with each unit in possession of their own unique personalities and skills to take on the various challenges presented in-game. Jagged Alliance for the DS is slated for release sometime in 2009.

Scan reveals 3 new characters and a new character class for Tales of The World: Radiant Mythology 2
More Tales are coming to your world as Tales of The World: Radiant Mythology 2 gets 3 new characters and a new character class.
A scan from Shonen Jump reveals that the 3 characters would be Jade from Tales of The Abyss, Kyle from Tales of Destiny 2, and the eager knight, Chloe from Tales of Legendia.
The scan also reveals the addition of a new character class - the Pirate. It’s supposed to be a skilled fighter that’s actually good at both short and long range combat, pretty handy.
No word on a US release yet, but Tales of The World: Radiant Mythology 2 will hit stores in Japan on the 29th of January 2009.
