Bleach: Heat the Soul 6 Review

Heat the Soul 6

Those of you interested in this game will already know what it’s about. Those of you who don’t, it’s a 2D (with 3D character models) fighter on a 3D plane based off of one of the hottest animes currently being read and watched. Also, this is the 6th game to be released for the PSP. This first one has yet to be released in the states; however, all PSP games are region free and it’s easy to import titles. I do it all the time (30+ Japanese PS2 games with a white Japanese PS2, 2 Japanese PS3 games, 4 Japanese PSP games and 3 Korean PSP games).

Graphics

The character details, designs and backgrounds in this game are superb, especially considering that this is on the PSP. The background adds depth to the 3-dimensional plane that you fight on and all of the attacks look very crisp.

- 18/20

Sound

The music, voiceovers and sound FX in this game are great. Everything sounds just like the anime on TV.

- 18/20

Heat the Soul 6 screenshot

Story

The story follows Ichigo Kurosaki and company as they fight Aizen and the hollows. For more info on the story of the show/manga, check Wikipedia (Long story – but you don’t need to know it to enjoy the game). The story follows the manga with the two movies are thrown in.

- 18/20

Gameplay

The characters have been tweaked and balanced again; however, there are a few that are just plain stronger than others. The flow of combat is very fluid for a PSP game. The movesets, although awesome, are somewhat limited. There are various modes to keep you entertained including, Story, Arcade, VS and Soul Championship.

- 17/20

Heat the Soul 6 screenshot

Replayability

Along with the various modes to keep you entertained, you have 56 total characters to master and 29 environments to fight in.

- 19/20

Conclusion

Bleach: Heat the Soul 6 is a very fun, well-paced game that is only available for the PSP in Japan. We will definitely see a 7th and probably 8th or even higher game in the coming years. Don’t hesitate, pick this game up now!

Final Score

- 90/100

SCEE: PSP sell-in hits 50 million worldwide

b7786_psp-brite-490w SCEE: PSP sell-in hits 50 million worldwide

Has it really been over four years since Sony’s helicopters swooped in, dropped a rope ladder and successfully extracted portable entertainment from the handheld gaming ghetto? Sony Computer Entertainment Europe reminds us that the PlayStation Portable was first launched in Japan in 2004 and has since spread across the globe, reaching a “sell-in” level of 50 million units (accompanied by 200 million software units). If you can’t tout selling out, you might as well do the “in” thing and count the number of units you’ve shipped to shelves, stalls, online retailers and really fancy airport vending machines.

Still, it’s an impressive (and very big!) number, one we’d relish shoving into the faces of our doubting, 2004 selves. Of course, we’d also irrevocably ruin the timeline by telling everyone to hold out for the fantastic PSP-2000 … so let’s just keep the celebration confined to the present day, shall we?
